カナダBC州ニューウェストミンスター市と大阪府守口市は、1963年に日本ーカナダ間初の姉妹都市契約を結び、来年で60周年となります。
コロナ禍で人の行き来が難しい時代にも姉妹都市間の交流を絶やさないため、日本カナダ商工会議所では2022年2月12日に、両都市ひいては両国の若者をオンラインでつなぐイベントを開催いたしました。守口市に限らず日本全国津々浦々から集まった13歳から25歳の若者と、カナダの若者総勢33名が一挙に集い、お互いの生活・文化・興味・夢について英語と日本語両言語で交流をしました。
不安定な世界情勢だからこそ、人と人が繋がる機会が重要だと考え、本交流会をシリーズ化して続けてまいります。これを機会に両国の若者が交流を続け、来年姉妹都市60周年記念の際には、実際に対面して共に祝うことができることを願っています。

New Westminster (BC) and Moriguchi (Osaka) formed the first Canada and Japan sister city relationship in 1963.
To strengthen the tie despite the pandemic, JCCOC hosted a Youth Online Session on February 12th 2022 with 33 young participants agad 13-25 from Canada and Japan.
They shared an inspiring time together, talking about their life, culture, and language in a 60-minute session. It was also a perfect opportunity for those studying Japanese or English to try out their second language in practice, or for bilingual participants to assist other participants for better communication.
Believing that creating more bonds among people does lead us to a better world, we will continue offering more occasions of online interactions between Canada and Japan, while wishing that they will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the sister city relationship next year in person.
