Currently, in overseas markets such as Canada, Japanese products such as rice are sold at lower prices than in Japan, but counterfeit Japanese products are also rampant. The damage caused by these counterfeit products is increasing year by year, and according to the Japan Patent Office, as of 2020, the estimated annual damage to Japanese companies caused by counterfeit Japanese food products (fake Japanese food products) was 74.1 billion yen. Furthermore, in some cases, foreign-grown varieties of Japanese products (such as Shine Muscat grapes and Wagyu beef) are becoming more prevalent, and the trust and value of Japanese brands in overseas markets are being lost due to the actions of third parties. These problems will have a serious impact on the future of the Japanese economy.
At this event, we provided a detailed overview of the current state of Japanese products overseas and discussed how Japan should address these challenges.
Six people participated in the event. They learned about topics such as "sales conditions of agricultural products such as rice and meat in overseas markets," "challenges that are inevitably faced when expanding overseas," and "solutions to these challenges." We hope that they will utilize what they learned in their future careers and contribute to the development of Japan.
