Report on the second "Umikatsu" event on Sep. 11

Past Events

Our second beach-themed event was held on September 11th.

Thanks to everyone's support, we had 50 participants from all over Greater Vancouver, exceeding our capacity. Participants ranged in age from infants to people in their 80s, representing a diverse age range and background.

We divided into about 10 groups and spent an hour picking up trash. Afterwards, a representative from each group spoke about the environmental issues related to the trash they collected. Many of the participants were high school students, and they touched upon why it's necessary to protect the marine environment and why they wanted to volunteer.

Just like the first time, the most rewarding aspect was the connection with other people. Many participants said that picking up trash alone was a bit daunting, but it was fun doing it with others, and they valued the interaction with people they met for the first time.

Finally, we sampled popular items from Vice Chairman Hikita's TSUKIJI FISH MARKET Inc., such as fried horse mackerel, grilled conger eel, and rice balls filled with rare delicacies like small fish, and then held a get-together. Several participants who hit it off went for a stroll along the beach, and the event, which truly embodied its purpose of connecting people, came to a successful close.

At the next event, some participants are expected to want to join the organizing team, making it an even more enjoyable marine activity event.
