Dear Members, August 15, 2019
I trust that you are all doing very well and continuing to thrive.
The Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce, in consultation with North Vancouver and Chiba City, held a ceremony on August 11th (Sunday) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the sister city relationship between North Vancouver and Chiba City.
Chiba City and North Vancouver City have fostered friendly relations since establishing a sister city relationship on October 6, 1967. In 1987, to commemorate the 20th anniversary, they constructed the Chiba Garden in a corner of North Vancouver Waterfront Park.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the sister city relationship between the two cities, a ceremony was held in the plaza next to Chiba Garden, with the hope of further developing friendly relations in the future. In addition to speeches by the people involved listed below, there was also a performance of a portable shrine and Japanese drums. Despite the rainy weather on the day, the rain stopped just before the start, and the event was a great success with many visitors.
