JVTA cohost event

Event Details

謹んで新春のお祝い申し上げます。

This is an announcement for the New Year's special event co-hosted by JCCOC and the Japan Visual Media Translation Academy (JVTA), titled "Let's try adding English subtitles to Japanese anime!"

overview

Want to learn how to subtitle Japanese anime, which is hugely popular all over the world? Our instructors are JVTA (Japan Video Translation Association) experts in translating Japanese content for a global audience.

This hands-on class uses popular Japanese anime films such as Studio Ghibli's "Spirited Away" as examples to demonstrate how to create subtitles that make the characters speak English naturally. Participants are then divided into groups and can try creating their own subtitles.

This online event is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. It's recommended for Japanese language learners, English language learners, anime fans, and anyone who wants to learn about and share Japanese culture. No prior Japanese language level is required (a vocabulary list will be provided to assist with translation, so even beginners can participate without worry!).

Through these events, you can learn about Japanese language and culture, and rediscover the wonders of Japan. We also offer bilingual and bicultural education using English and Japanese, as well as opportunities for international exchange.

Join us for a fun and relaxed learning experience with experienced instructors Bill and Ishii from the Japan Language Media Institute (JLMI), affiliated with JVTA. We encourage you to participate!
