We would like to inform you that the Vancouver Shinpo newspaper, published on March 28th, featured our event held on February 20th, stating that "more than 100 people attended the Chamber of Commerce's video translation event, with participants coming not only from North America and Japan but from all over the world."

A special event co-hosted by the Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce, the Japan Academy of Visual Translation, and the Japanese Media Research Institute, titled "Let's Add English Subtitles to Japanese Anime!", was held online on February 20th at 7:30 PM (Pacific Standard Time).
Using popular Japanese anime works, including Studio Ghibli's "Spirited Away," as examples, Kiyotake Ishii and Bill Riley of the Japan Video Translation Academy demonstrated how to create English subtitles. Furthermore, participants were divided into groups and tried their hand at creating subtitles themselves.
Finally, the instructor provided feedback on the completed translations (subtitles), explaining why each translation was good and providing background information on Japanese culture.
Over 100 participants came not only from the Vancouver area but also from across Canada, Japan, the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Singapore. They learned about translated Japanese and Japanese culture, rediscovered Japan, and engaged in international exchange by working on projects in groups with participants from around the world.
