Everyone, summer is in full swing, and I hope you are all enjoying wonderful summer days basking in the blue skies and bright sunshine.

Today, I'd like to report on our "Sea Activities" event. On August 7th, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM, we successfully held our first beach cleaning event at John Lawson Park, West Vancouver, in Ambleside.

There were a total of 27 participants, ranging in age, and many families with children joined us.

After spending about an hour cleaning the beach, we gathered in one place for a discussion.

I prepared a large bucket, but it quickly filled up with the collected trash. I was surprised at how fast they were at both collecting and piling up the garbage.

Takuya Hikita spearheaded this company-wide event.

TSUKIJI FISH MARKET Co., Ltd. is a company that connects people, the world, and nature through activities at sea.

The theme is "Treating global problems as your own."
The "Ocean Activities" program provides a safe space for participants to reflect on and discuss various events that have occurred in Japan and Canada. It offers an opportunity to consider and discuss various events happening in Japan, Canada, and around the world as if they were happening to oneself.

Takuya (me) talked about the sea, seafood, and food, which are my areas of expertise.

We value the connections between people and things, and we want to empower people to take action themselves.

The goal is to become able to take initiative on your own.

Furthermore, AK JUMP Educational Consulting Co., Ltd., managed by Miki Takabayashi, co-sponsored the event, aiming to convey the importance of "inclusion" in life. Listening to others and respecting differing opinions are important messages to be communicated through the event.

The event was very well received by the participants, and we received the following feedback:

  • A very fun event
  • Enjoyable for the whole family
  • I've always wanted to start an environmental event like this, but I never had the chance until now. I'm glad I participated.
  • Many people expressed a desire to hold these events regularly as a group.
  • I'd like to try this at various other beaches in the future.
  • Cleaning the beach made me feel like my heart was cleansed too.
  • I really enjoyed connecting with new people through these activities.
