The Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce is one of the few Japanese-Canadian organizations registered with the Canadian federal government, and the laws governing its non-profit status were amended in the fall of 2011.
As a result of these changes, the By-Laws of the Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce and Industry were also required to be amended by October 17, 2014. Therefore, we have taken this opportunity to explain the changes to our members.
On November 20, 2012, a legal seminar and a briefing session on amendments to the bylaws (amendments to federal law concerning non-profit organizations) were held simultaneously, led by attorney Victor Tsao, a board member of the Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce. The topics covered were the know-how of corporate acquisitions (differences between stock acquisitions and asset acquisitions, acquisition procedures, due diligence, etc.) and the protection of a company's intellectual property in the international market (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and goodwill).
