It is an honour to serve this coming year as your president, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board members for electing me to lead this excellent association.

We have a strong Board overall, with a good mix of experienced board members and a new face, which should help to ensure that our association has a good year for 2011-2012.

I would like to confirm that the mission of The Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce is to expose the Japanese business community to Canadian and other ethnic business groups and to create a broad networking base so that people can get to know each other and develop new business successfully.

The economy in Canada might have fared better than most economies around the world, but we cannot stand back and take this for granted.

As I look ahead I am not sure of what will happen but I know that if we in the association continue to exchange ideas and look to help each other we will be stronger at year’s end.

My vision for this year is to accomplish the following:

  • Create financial stability for our association.
  • Increase our business membership by 20% by becoming involved with other cultural and business associations in BC.
  • Developing our network to become a truly national association.
  • Through our events increase our contacts and relationship with governments at all levels.

My belief is that the businesses in Japan need us more now than any time in the past and we need to find new ways to strengthen our ties to the economy in Japan by being creative and entrepreneurial in our approach.

We value our relationships with each other and together we can and will be successful as an association if we remember what our mission is.

On behalf of the board members of Japan Canada Chamber of Commerce, I look forward to working with all of you and welcome your input.
